The Living Firewalls Group is working to realize this program. Its members live in Erzsébetváros, and are preoccupied by the problems of firewalls. In this way they can easily join in on István Ocztos’s program, in which he chose three out of the several firewalls of the district and opened an international competition for fine arts designs for them.

The goal, as the first step in the project, is to restore, preserve, insulate, as well as decorate with each winning design of the competition a couple of firewalls in the 7th district. These gigantic unutilized surfaces which are a definite part of the city’s image have a lot of potential to make their environment more beautiful, more exciting, and more well-maintained.

Since the shape of all firewalls is similar, the designs are easily adapted to other locations as well, thus the program can be extended to the entire city of Budapest in the long run. If the project was carried out, it would improve the city’s image, and could increase the touristic attraction of the disctrict and of Budapest.
