What made a lasting impression on Sonjasdotter’s work was a study trip in 2004, when she visited an organic farm in India, called Navdanya, where the farmers collect, improve and breed the seeds of local rices, cereals and beans. Their work method is based on the model of traditional self-sufficiency, they are not using chemicals, and they can keep the small farms exempt from the rules that regulate large-scale agriculture.

Almost obsessively, Sonjasdotter researches the production, improvement and marketing of a single crop – potato. In the ongoing project Potatoperspective, she explores everything related to potato, from the conflicting ideals of home growing, industrial and organic cultivation, through the cultural historical aspects of potato consumption, to those problems that arise from the regulation of agricultural production, including the financial ruin of small producers or the fact that one can easily break the law, even unwittingly.
