The installation created by Gideon Horváth in the Studio Gallery is a unique environment in which through the combination of different materials (sand, aluminum, beeswax) the artist creates a hybrid space. The decaying structures here invite us to connect without the presence of the narrative and focus on a sensual, tactile presence guided by playful adventurousness.
The installation emphasizes that instead of the apocalyptic visions and ecological grief we should experience a fresh, personal connection in understanding our direct environment. This way we can escape the alienation and rather focus on the action and the experiencing of inevitable change. The beeswax objects on the sand-hills can be interpreted as fossils from the future. The metal spiral stretching under the ceiling might refer to the Anthropocene-narrative mentioned above.
The dim lights don’t ensure a clear view and the exhibition does not give direct answers. It much rather tries to situate the visitors in a new-found position where the following question can be asked: What kind of unknown, hybrid phenomenons, the mixture of human and non-human can come to light from underneath the crumbling structures?
Decaying structures have a sweet smell
