Cross-border relations with neighbouring Hungary have traditionally been a priority for the province of Lower Austria, with cultural exchanges between the two countries in various fields such as music, heritage conservation, literature and the visual arts.
On the occasion of the Hungarian presidency of the Danube Regions Working Group (ARGE Donauländer) 2023-2024, six Hungarian artists have been invited to present their works at the Ausstellungsbrücke St. Pölten Gallery, run by the Province of Lower Austria, in cooperation with the Hungarian Academy of Arts.
This collaboration, which began in 2020, is now continuing with the presentation of large-scale works by four Lower Austrian artists – Eduard Angeli, Franziska Maderthaner, Rudolf Leitner-Gründberg and Johann Berger – under the title The Glory of Beauty.
The exhibition explores different aspects of beauty through contemporary, diverse paintings and sculptures, without making beauty an explicit, reflective theme of the works. Beauty is also understood as a mental dimension of perception, involving temporality, emotions such as melancholy, longing, transience or transformation.
