“Micro-narratives that close in on themselves are reinterpreted as elements of a larger narrative. A window opens through which we may cautiously glimpse the patterns of collective historical amnesia taking shape on the terrain between individual imagination and the will of ideology.”
Katharina Roters and József Szolnoki began their collaborative, research-based practice in the early 2000s, examining the often contradictory patterns of individual and collective memory, with a particular focus on the mechanisms of forgetting. The exhibition in Veszprém, created for the seventieth anniversary, marks the concluding chapter of a body of work first presented in Győr in 2016 under the title Hack the Past!, which incorporated elements of reenactment and public intervention, and later further developed for the Wunderblock exhibition at MODEM in Debrecen in 2019.
