…Why don’t I make glass sculptures anymore, like I did a few years back? There used to be a glass factory, there was a demand for creative minds, and there were commissions.
It’s hard to face the past and think about what I should have done differently. Because I should have done things differently—that’s for sure! But it’s nice to look back on my teachers and mentors. Frigyes Pogány, Manna Supka, György Z. Gács, György Kepes, Erzsébet Saár, István Janáky, József Cserny…
I studied and experimented. When I talked about it, they said I was teaching.
That definition of what is needed for creative work is an anecdotal throwback to the past (?). “Inspiration” certainly not! Rather, a commission, information, a down payment, and a deadline! You also need experience, knowledge of materials, courage… The demand has changed (?!), now I say this or ask it… I don’t know, I can only guess.
