Our exhibition offers new insights into the painting of the period of regime change, through the work of a private collector with a deep and persistent interest.

Light was the theme of many works in the Pedit collection: in addition to works evoking the landscapes of the universe, the dimensions of infinity, colour was also a component, a direct expression of the fundamental ideas of painting. The works thus include both those that use the widest range of colours and those that strive towards monochrome, even using gold to suggest transcendence.

But the paintings do not merely represent the planetary horizons of time and space; the poetic titles and the use of forms that have been typical throughout art history also humorously raise critical aspects, sometimes referring to spheres beyond the dynamics of society, sometimes to political or scientific utopias.

Most of these works, produced in the late 1980s and early 1990s, were transferred directly from the studios to private collections abroad, and therefore only partially represented in the discourse on art of the period. But now that they are in the public domain, they can shape our understanding of the period, beyond the experiences that some of the works represent.
