acb Gallery presents the first solo exhibition of reknown Romanian painter Serban Savu (1978) in Hungary. Savu presents a new body of work in his Hungarian debut, which he created after he represented Romania in the Venice Biennale in 2024.
The new paintings are still landscape-focused, but prior to Savu’s post-socialist vedutas portraying outskirts of cities they are focusing on wild nature and on a new protagonist, the hermit. The new central figure of the escapist phantasy is fleeing civilisation and arrives to the wilderness which is also in decay.
In the new paintings of Savu different interpretations of culture, nature, time, history and ruins clash with each other, as the artist is trying to get closer as ever to the real.
