Being one of the 20th century’s most elemental movements while eluding rigid definitions, Fluxus can be seen as a continuation of the movements of Dada, Surrealism, action art and the ephemeral art of the 1960s.
The Fluxus Manifesto can be interpreted as rebellion, or merely as leaving minimalist traces, the expression of a lifestyle; sometimes with a philosophical message, sometimes without any.
The hundreds of works selected from the collection of Maria and Walter Schnepel Cultural Foundation represent a broad palette of Fluxus through works by international artists.
Works by Dietrich Albrecht, Gábor Altorjay, Hans Peter Alvermann, Eric Andersen, Arman, Ay-O, Joseph Beuys, George Brecht, Marcel Broodthears, Claus Böhmler, John Cage, Guglielmo Achille Cavellini, Guiseppe Chiari, Christo, Philip Corner, Marcel Duchamp, Selmar Feldman, Robert Filliou, Jochen Gerz, Wolfgang Hainke, Richard Hamilton, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Al Hansen,Geoffrey Hendricks, Dick Higgins, Dorothy Iannone, Ray Johnson, Joe Jones, Mauricio Kagel, Allan Kaprow, Bengt af Klingtberg, Ute Klophaus, Alison Knowles, Arthur Kopcke, Milan Knížák, Takehisa Kosugi, Lakner László, Manfred Leve, Richard Lindner, Bernhard Luginbühl, George Maciunas, René Magritte, Charlotte Moormann, Boris Nieslony, Ann Noël, Jürgen O.
