A few years ago, MissionArt Gallery began to focus more intensively on the area of contemporary art in which artists use photography as a technique in itself. Its origins go back to the 1920s, but its use has become more common since the 1960s and almost integrated into the technical repertoire of progressive art since the 1980s. Our gallery has been exhibiting and selling photographic works since its beginnings in 1990.
In recent years, we have organised solo exhibitions of works by Péter Gémes, Zsuzsi Ujjj, László feLugossy, Imre Kocsis, Árpád Szabados and Tihamér Gyarmathy. MissionArt is the custodian of András Baranyay’s entire artistic legacy, and in 2021 we organised an exhibition of his oeuvre at the Kunsthalle, by which time the catalogue of his oeuvre will have been completed.
The 2023 Budapest PhotoFestival will showcase a very exciting and very wide range of works, from Tihamér Gyarmathy’s photograms of 1951 to recent works.
