Smoke / Head / Puddle

Péter Forgács‘s recent photo–based works are testimonies to contemplation, which can be divided into three series in this exhibition according to their motifs. They are clearly linked by a state of being of observation, unhurried by the cycle of everyday life or the thread of history that bundles meanings into a single point. Smoke and puddles as symbols are both ephemeral and mysterious, and the fragmentation of the figures that disappear or are reflected in them points to a limit of consciousness. Some things cannot be revealed, because the secret that is revealed ceases to be a secret. Although Forgács has abandoned narrative in order to free himself to come closer to the inexplicable, he has not ceased to act: he is searching for the metaphysical essence – intently, contemplatively, and by devotion.
