Gábor Kristóf’s third solo exhibition in the Small Gallery explores the abstract perception of time, the tension between collective and individual memory, and the insidious, persistent, identity–shaping effects of globalization. The artist’s most recent playful, installation-based, and often collaborative artistic practices are replaced by a far more introspective, exclusively text-based series of artworks, reduced to the austere format of a commemorative plaque.
The marble plaques of *Ghost Minutes – Salt Hours – Fordite Dreams* synthesize the notes Kristóf accumulated over the past few years with his research into the industrial technology of powder coating and the cultural-historical roots of the RAL color scale. The resulting artificial stone—termed “Fordite”—and the text inscribed upon it function as an objective revelation within the exhibition space, owing to the medium’s inherent public-space character. Kristóf’s expressions—drawn from his subjective reality and at times fragmented—along with his speculative word combinations formed from everyday elements of consumer society, are first etched onto a steel plate and then placed in the “public space,” where they float in the fictional reality of an intermediate, synthetic space-time between the artist and the viewer.
