Hatikva

10. September 2016. – 07. October
MegnyitóOpening: September 9, 2016, 5:30 pm
On the occasion of the 2014 Holocaust Memorial Year, the artist reached out to 23 Hungarian radio stations, seeking their cooperation: „… I’d like to request you to broadcast the Hatikva sung by the survivors at the Jewish service held on the fifth day after the liberation of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945, on the 69th anniversary of its recording on April 20, 2014, at 12:00.”

With two exceptions, the stations rejected or ignored his request. The artist made a recording of the programmes the stations broadcast during this time instead. He compiled his 8-channel sound installation, Hungary’s temporary, alternative Holocaust memorial from these recordings. The exhibition will also showcase another work by Kiss-Pál entitled Grey. In the video we can observe the process of cutting out a star of David as a symbol of an identity chosen by an individual and projected onto him/her by others.
