The human figure is at the heart of Sara Berti’s research, but in a very particular way: it is the artist’s primary confrontation with the world, a means of cognition and a privileged space for artistic expression. In his figures, the classical approach is expressed in the harmony of forms, the precise balance between the parts and the great simplicity in the name of which the artist sacrifices all narrative detail.
The pieces in this series are an imprint of the artist’s sensibility, which matured in him during his period of covid, making the works a kind of reflection on space, both internal (home, private) and external (outside the home, public). Traditional works, such as paintings and drawings, are originally housed in vacuum foil, or in frames with painted exteriors.
This intensifies a more definite distancing, which is also a sign of suffering, an awareness of missing the other and the society without which we cannot live. Vacuum-coated works, including sculpture, are also critiques of the consumer world of which Art itself is a part. Through these reflections, the artist seeks to stimulate the viewer, who can identify with the works through the body as a common denominator and rethink their relationship with society, other people and objects.
The bright pink is a sign of artificiality, as well as isolation from the outside world, unnatural, but pink is also a positive symbol of feminine strength, a strength that could be a useful model that we should rely on more heavily when resolving the conflicts of the present.
As in all her works, Sara Berti places great emphasis on spirituality, another common factor between different times and cultures, a source of inspiration for new and positive development. Her works grow from a strong traditional base to experiment further with new techniques.
