Jolly Roger Gives Me Shade

09. October 2026. – 15. November
MegnyitóOpening: October 8, 2026, 6:00 pm

The opening night will also feature the premiere of the experimental short film *Pirate*, co-directed by Áron Lőrincz and Luca Bonta, in collaboration with Longtermhandstand.

The exhibition and the film both draw from the same world: the noise, absurdity, and dizzying rhythm of big-city life, as well as the question of how one can preserve one’s own freedom and inner world amid all of this.

*Pirate* is the story of a modern-day pirate’s rebellion against the madness of the world. His companion and accomplice is a cat, with whom he seeks their own harmony. The film’s protagonist is a painter who, through his art, points to a possible individual path: how to live by one’s own rules in a world that constantly tries to sweep you along with it.

The film approaches this world not as a critique of society, but as a story of personal rebellion. Through joys, hardships, and everyday dilemmas, it poses the question: how can we love the noisy, dizzying life of the big city — with all its flaws — without becoming part of the madness ourselves?

The pirate is a recurring figure in Áron Lőrincz’s art. He is both an outsider and a participant — one who does not flee the world but tries to exist within it according to his own rules. *Jolly Roger Gives Me Shade* carries this idea forward in the exhibition space, while the video *Pirate* expands upon this same universe.
