At the exhibition of the King Stephen Museum, István Halas, who always crosses the boundary between fine art and photography in his works, presents his emblematic photographs, photographic cycles and his latest shots taken in the last four decades. The exhibition also includes a number of older works that have not been shown before and will be on view to the public for the first time.

The catalogue is part of a wider project in which the artist himself and others will organise, interpret, display and make researchable what he considers to be valuable pieces of his work from the last 40 years. His published and exhibited works to date are backed by hundreds of enlargements, prints, thousands of negatives and hundreds of thousands of digital images. His artistic career is divided into two parts by the substitution of analogue and digital techniques in photography. The two techniques require different approaches to both processing and presentation.

Thirty years ago, in 1993, the artist had a solo exhibition in the same exhibition space. Now, the Catalogue project is creating the opportunity for a selection of material for a ‘life’s work’ exhibition.
