The exhibition explores the Hungarian echoes of the conceptual paradigms developed by Július Koller. Koller’s art was not only a formal innovation in the Central European neo-avant-garde tendency, but also conveyed a structural way of thinking that explored the possibilities of alternative cultural functioning in an authoritarian, controlled public sphere. The concept of U.F.O. (Universal-Cultural Futurological Operations), which he coined in 1970, served as a metaphor, a conceptual construct and a critical-poetic toolkit. The focus of the exhibition in the acb Attachment space is on how these artistic strategies were precipitated in Hungary, with a special focus on the artists who developed similar reflexive, intermedial and linguistic-critical positions in parallel at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s.
