For the second time this year, Nagyházi Contemporary organised an art colony for young contemporary artists, where 8 painters and sculptors could create over two weeks. A special feature of the art camp is that those invited are not asked to donate a work to the organiser.
In the July heat, all sorts of things turn up in one’s languid mind, especially when one can stare into the butterfly-filled wilderness, isolated from the outside world. In the distance, mirages of man-made towers and shapes still loom in the distance, but in the heat of the afternoon, the great concepts and ideals become so hot that they cannot be touched, they burn.
Some people dream of a juicy watermelon, many would retreat to the shade of the jungle to escape the sun’s scorching rays, some visualise the snowy slopes of a box of Cini Minis cereal as a mental ice cube, and everyone longs for a glass of cold water to somehow get that hotdog down.
The only difference between artists and the average person is that they turn these stray thoughts into art.
