1956: Odyssey – Personal and collective stories of Ata Kandó

Ata Kandó (1913-2017) was a Hungarian-born photographer whose work captured the refugee crisis after the 1956 revolution. Her photographs focus in particular on children whose fate was shaped by the storms of history. His images both document and touch emotionally, showing human resilience and fragility.

Bertien van Manen – Winter Journey: Budapest 1975

A prominent figure in international documentary photography, Bertien van Manen’s images taken during his 1975 visit to Budapest will be on show for the first time in Pécs. The series offers a glimpse into the everyday moments of life behind the Iron Curtain, made special by the artist’s sensitivity and curiosity.

Katalin Nádor – The light of forms

For decades, Katalin Nádor was known as an art photographer at the Janus Pannonius Museum or as a photographer documenting the exhibitions and outdoor actions of the Pécs Workshop Group, but her abstract photographs received little attention. The aim of the exhibition is to give his work a place in the history of Hungarian photography and to show his unique approach to the natural and built environment.

Luca Göbölyös – Background

Luca Göbölyös’s series is based on a unique historical source material: 19th century Victorian portraits of infants, in which the obscured figure of the mother appears only as a background. The works hover on the borderline between visibility and invisibility, and explore deep emotional, social and psychological themes.
