The “drawings in steel” on view hark back to the artists’ childhood years when those rods were routinely used for official murals radiating optimism on huge walls.
On a more private plane, rods were used to make flower stands, window-grates, and fence decorations. These were examples of function-shift so typical of an economy based on shortages.
Related sketches and side-products are also on view. Despite opening hours the “drawings in steel” can be seen on the facade of the gallery.
