Dóra Vanda Demcsák – AVANDA, a sculptor, draws on the parallel between rumination and psychological ruminating in her exhibition titled “Rumination” through a cow-torso installation: that repetitive cycle of thought that focuses attention on past events rather than on new solutions. The figure of the cow simultaneously embodies the self-returning motion of rumination, self-consuming processes, and the archetype of the mother animal, thereby becoming a vessel for the artist’s personal and transgenerational experiences. The life–size cow torsos depict the various stages of this process: the first figure is still whole, then the body gradually becomes incomplete, until finally only an empty space remains. The series explores the slow dissolution of presence and the transformation of the relationship between the self and reality.
