Today’s capitalist economic system creates an imperative situation that requires migration from the countryside to the cities. As a result, the rural way of life, with its thousands of years of history, has become a social order in decline. This is not only a personal tragedy, but can also be associated with the loss of cultural values linked to identity that define a nation at a collective level.

The works of Alpár Főcze depict the everyday struggle of the village man to maintain his identity and his existential needs. The artist presents this struggle from the perspective of his native village Gyimes, attempting to thematise the problems of disappearing villages in the 21st century.

The exhibition is an attempt to present a collective perspective. The works are based on photos that are shared between the people of Gyimes or shared by others on social media. As a result, multiple perspectives and life situations are interwoven and placed in a common context.
