Péter Szalay’s solo exhibition opens on the occasion of the artist’s 41st birthday. In addition to entirely new works, the exhibition also features reinterpretations of several emblematic pieces from his body of work to date. In his exhibition, he intertwines the distinctive pessimism of our times with self-reflection on his own age.
In 2018, the artist and his family moved from Budapest to an island, where he rediscovered freedom in a village community rather than urban life, and in daily closeness to nature rather than a consumerist lifestyle.
The raw material for some of the works presented in the exhibition stems from the artist’s characteristic working method, which is based on found objects discovered in nature.
