Last year, the Szervátiusz Foundation celebrated its 20th anniversary. To mark the occasion, they were presented in October 2023 at the Szekely Museum in Csík, and an exhibition will open in February at the Kunsthalle in Budapest, where the artists from the Carpathian Basin who have been awarded the Jenő Szervátiusz Prize by the Foundation over the past 20 years will exhibit their work.
The Szervátiusz Foundation was founded in 2003 by Kossuth Prize-winning sculptor Tibor Szervátiusz with his wife Klára on the 100th anniversary of the birth of his father, Jenő Szervátiusz, also a sculptor. At the same time, he established the Jenő Szervátiusz Prize, with the aim of drawing attention to Hungarian art and artists born in the Carpathian Basin. The prize is awarded annually by the Board of Trustees to artists who have created and produced high quality art that reflects the roots of national culture. After all, alongside language and music, culture of form is the most important identity-preserving force in the life of a nation and one of the keys to its survival.
In addition to the works of Jenő Szervátiusz and Tibor Szervátiusz, the exhibition includes works by István Árkossy, Éva Barabás, Lajos Bardócz, Iván Berend, Vince Bocskay, András Gaál, Lajos Győrfi, Sándor Györfi, Hunor Gyurkovics, Gábor Homoki, Csilla Kákonyi, Anna Kubinyi, Árpád Márton, Péter Matl, János Nagy, Lajos Páll, Alina Petrás, Mária Petrás, Tibor Rieger and Ottó Szabó.
