The new exhibition of the Godot Institute pays tribute to the work of two outstanding figures of Hungarian contemporary painting, Miklós Szüts and Erzsébet Vojnich. The exhibition focuses on the second half of their oeuvre, from the post-system-change period, from monumental oil on canvas paintings to smaller-scale watercolours. Drawing on the metaphysical tradition of painting, the works invite the visitor into a quiet, mysterious world. We are drawn into a labyrinth of streets, building interiors and obscure pathways, where the transcendental experience of absence and emptiness becomes even more palpable.

The works of Szüts and Vojnich show the indefatigability of melancholic thinking, the search for the elusive in two consistent, clear-cut works. The works, with their serious, meaningful atmosphere, convey a world closed off from concepts through their metaphorical imagery. Their art has been shown in countless exhibitions to audiences at home and abroad, and their work has won major awards. Deeply believing in, proclaiming and living the power of humanity and thought, these artists represent a unique voice in the domestic art world. The appeal of their work lies not only in the high technical quality of their painting, but also in its enigmatic quality. Their pure visual world invites visitors to a real contemplation in the hall of the Godot Institute of Contemporary Art.
