I am a painter who draws inspiration from nature; my inclinations and beliefs have shaped me into one. ‘The longer the unravelled thread, the stronger my bond with nature,’ declared painter Lajos Ujváry (1925–2006), the legendary teacher at the Kisképző High School, at the age of fifty-two, and he remained true to this belief until the end of his life.

Curated by Márton Barabás — a Munkácsy Mihály Prize-winning painter, full member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts, and curator of the exhibition — this representative selection of works, which are significant in the artist’s oeuvre and and defining moments of his career, offers visitors a unique opportunity to gain a comprehensive overview of the career of an outstanding artist, as well as of his work as an educator, which influenced the artistic development of generations of “Kisképző” students.
