“It may seem like a distant parallel, yet I cannot express my connection to female identity more vividly than through the journey of artistically gifted children. It is a primal conflict within me that I did not create, yet I must confront it as if it were mandatory; I must complete this task. The steps of the task are the same, and the goal is the same. To transcend what the institutional system and society have conditioned me to believe, and to realize that this primal conflict does not exist—it is merely a mirage created as a consequence of conditioning.”

In her currently exhibited works, Liksay explores both personal and social layers simultaneously. She connects issues of female identity, institutionalized art education, and contemporary feminist discourses within a self-reflexive narrative. She draws on her experiences of the pressure to conform, the loss of creative autonomy, and an identity crisis, and seeks a new visual and conceptual language through the observation of nature. Through behavioral patterns in the animal kingdom, and through allegorical systems rather than direct depictions of the female body, she explores the possibilities of finding identity.
