In Gábor György Nagy’s exhibition titled “Folded Light,” the interplay between light, form, and space—each shaping the other—becomes the defining element of the works. In addition to oil, acrylic, pastel, and printmaking techniques, photography, digital imaging, and the reinterpretation of various visual sources also play an important role in the artist’s work. In recent years, he has frequently turned to everyday objects, still-life scenes, and geometric forms. A long-standing recurring motif in his art is the circle and the sphere, as well as the effects of light and shadow that shape them. However, geometric forms do not appear merely as depicted motifs: with the help of light, they create a spatial effect even on a flat picture surface, highlighting, isolating, or even blending a shape into its surroundings. The circle can thus simultaneously become a concrete motif, a compositional organizing principle, and a visual sign created by light.

Gábor György Nagy’s artistic practice is characterized by the interplay between media and experimentation with techniques that push the boundaries of traditional printmaking. In his works, he repeatedly explores the creation of the illusion of movement, the effects of reflective materials and lighting, and the visual possibilities of layers and transparencies. One of the unique features of this exhibition is that the artist brings her prints into three-dimensional space: this time, her plate monotypes do not remain flat but are transformed into three-dimensional forms through folding, bending, and gluing. The print that steps out of the plane thus becomes not only an image but also a three-dimensional form that constantly changes through light and shadow.
