The core of the international exhibition consists of Hungarian and foreign works selected from the XI International Biennale of Drawing and Graphic Arts, as well as paintings and sculptures by other artists, making the Vasarely Museum the fourth Budapest venue of a series of five exhibitions presenting the entire Biennale, but also going beyond drawing, graphic art and the relationship between the two media and other media. The exhibition focuses on innovative phenomena in the post–2009 visual arts and seeks to answer the question of the relationship between artistic innovation, the renewal of tradition and the development of art.
The exhibition features constructive, concrete, abstract and conceptual works by more than 40 artists from 12 countries. The artists share a common characteristic of interdisciplinary thinking and a consistently applied, autonomous creative strategy. The works are made using traditional and non–traditional media, techniques and materials. The former include graphite, coloured pencil, ink, pen and pencil drawings, scratch drawings, brush drawings, collages, prints made using various well–known reproduction techniques (e.g. copperplate, photo–alugraphy, silkscreen, cyanotype, etc.), photographs, paintings and sculptures, and the latter include computer and plotter drawings, 3D drawings and artist‘s drawings of drawing machines, graphite reliefs, holograms, Giclée prints, artist books and artist book objects, some paper and painted wood objects, works on paper, installation works, computer installations, video and laser animation, and video films.
