The exhibition includes two electrographic series and two 4K videos. The title of the exhibition (Photismos) refers to enlightenment, illumination and imaginary stages of mystical cognition.
The titular series is a continuation of the previous one made in New York; through the layered application of digital photographs, it presents both a futuristic spectacle and a formulation of a light-art-like formulation.
The second series is a reworking of images from one of the video highlights; here the natural environment dominates, with water, reflection, sunlight and contrasting shadows organised into a play of light. The work (LightWater-WaterLight) also alludes to various archaic divination techniques and the symbolism of initiation/baptism.
The second video, with the same title as the first series, is my latest video work, a recreation of a performance in front of the camera in 2023, in which a face is abstracted thanks to special lighting and layering.
In my video Photismos, I moved on the borderline of cinematic abstraction, aiming to create a new kind of visionary visual quality through the abstraction of the face/person. Both videos have a richly detailed, painterly, light-painting potential that needs to be further explored.
