“… I feel that one of the characteristic features of our fine arts – also in view of the transitional socio-cultural state of our region – is that the younger generation includes many and varied, excellent painters following the most diverse directions and traditions. This does not, however, mean a nostalgic, conservative or provincial attitude, since young artists are reinterpreting their aristocratic art by reflecting on and using the new technical means and methods of image-making, which are emerging in international new media art…

…One of the recurring characters in Dénes Wächter’s paintings is the femme fatale, commercial and smile-inducing, yet deeply embedded in our (male) memory and sexual fantasy, and reduced to a pin-up girl. In addition to personal memories and the first sensual experiences of childhood, the alparian yet attractive consumer Venus evokes an era and mild political reminiscences, displaying the “forbidden fruits” of the fifties and sixties, which are licked on the inside of our wardrobe doors and appear in smuggled western magazine photos…”
